“It is well to fly towards the light, even where there may be some fluttering and bruising of wings.”
— Elizabeth Barrett Browning
About the artist
Sending Rays™ was born from good timing, searching and a love of flying towards the light.
After lake and city living downstate, My husband and I combined the best of both settling into our hillside ranch overlooking Traverse City and the ever changing views of its grand West Bay. Our dwelling has served me well as a retired residential and landscape designer who’s artist eye is always searching out color, patterns and the impact of light.
Most mornings I grab my iPhone then head to my deck to catch the sun’s first rays slipping above the horizon. When summer sun’s warmth and location allow, I grab my iPhone, again, to pursue Lake Michigan swimming and beach walks while capturing shots of sun rays dancing through the water.
In 2018, timing and searching took on new meaning after my cancer diagnosis and treatment at nearby Cowell/Munson Centers. Increasingly, I found myself searching for cards, not only to say thanks to my professional caregiving team but to also share with fellow cancer survivors, my own feeling of hope that transcends. . . “like rays passing thru & beyond. . .”
I began studying substrates for my photos, redesigning card stock that would allow for more translucent inserts, while formatting my message of sending rays. Before sending my first designs I ordered stamps that reflected my themes and in quantities to match my inventory.
From all of the above and 2 years of “fluttering and bruising” my card project is ready to take flight. I’ve kept my goal of featuring our regional inspirational gifts of nature while working thru the pragmatic problems with talented local experts willing to take on my designs.
I look forward to adding to my collection by sending more rays your way.
